People of Light, People of Darkness: The Last Apostle | 1 John 1:1-4Намуна

This intro to 1 John sets the tone for what’s to follow. It tells us what we should believe about Jesus (especially when we hear competing claims), who we should believe (especially when so many voices surround us), and why we should believe (especially when people wonder what difference it makes). Hopefully, these last few days helped you get the scope of things. We’ll dive deeper into each section of 1 John in the following weeks. But 1 John isn’t the only letter. There’s 2 and 3 John too. They help fill in the picture. Some wonder whether they were cover letters to 1 John as he sent it around. Or maybe quick letters – like we might send an email today – scribbled off to a particular church (2 John) or individual (3 John) facing the same challenges until John could get there. Whatever the case, read them and look for similar issues 1 John is addressing.
About this Plan

Near the end of his life, John, the last living apostle, wrote a Gospel. And it seems some people were distorting it. John writes to believers caught in the aftermath, bringing clarity and commentary on what he wrote. He shows them what it looks like to be people of light and life instead of people of death and darkness. This plan takes us through 1 John and how to live in the face of distorted Christianity.
