El Roi: Encounter the God Who Sees YouНамуна
Many centuries after Hagar encountered the Living God who sees, another rejected woman met the incarnate El Roi at another well. We don’t know her name, but we do know where she lived and how many husbands she married. She was the Samaritan woman. Jesus sat by the well outside a Samaritan village at just the right time to meet this desperate woman.
The fact Jesus knew exactly what time of day to sit at the well and this ostracized woman’s living situation proves El Roi saw her. He knew her before she knew Him. Before their encounter El Roi had already seen her circumstances and knew her heart.
It’s easy to point fingers at this woman married five times, but Jesus, El Roi, chose her.
He chose her to be the first evangelist in Samaria. Jesus saw through the toughened exterior and saw the heart of a woman who only wanted to be loved, a woman desperately awaiting Messiah and seeking true worship. That’s who El Roi saw.
Jesus did not shame her. He did not scold her. He offered her Living Water and gave her new purpose. Her circumstances did not change, but her heart did.
After meeting El Roi in flesh, this woman ran back to the village to bring others to the God who sees. Can you hear the joy and excitement in her voice in John 4:29? She cried out, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?”
Being seen by Jesus gave her:
Value.
Joy.
Purpose.
We are fully known yet fully loved. Get to know the God who’s always aware. He’s never elusive or absent. He never has been and never will be. Even when we can’t hear Him or feel Him, we can trust He’s watching and knows what we’re going through.
I’m here to tell you, you are not invisible. The Living One sees you. He sees your difficult job, loveless marriage, empty arms. He knows your grief, frustration, and pain. And He knows your heart. Seek Him today. Seek El Roi. He promises you’ll find Him.
Prayer:
El Roi, thank you for seeing me, knowing me and still loving me despite my rough edges and hardened heart. Fill me up with your living water and give me an eternal purpose today.
