Titus, Part Two

DAY 6 OF 16

God's grace is the foundation

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age” (Titus 2:11-12).

After the list of exhortations, Paul gives a bit of background information. What is “the doctrine of God our Savior” that should be made attractive in our lives? It is all about God's grace that has appeared to men, like the sun rising over the earth, illuminating and warming it. This grace is the answer to our deepest problem, which is the sin that holds humanity in its grip. This grace can save and heal us — whereby “us” is not limited to a select group but applies to “all people.” Everyone who hears and joyfully accepts the good news is saved! When that happens, your life turns upside down, and everything becomes different. Then you finally experience peace with God. Then you have hope for the future. Then you learn to live as the Lord asks of you, as Paul mentioned at length in the preceding verses. And then you also want your friends, neighbors, and relatives to hear this good news and surrender their lives to Jesus Christ. Perhaps your example can arouse their curiosity and be an attractive witness for the Gospel.

Has your life already been changed by God’s grace? Where have you noticed changes?
