Dream Again

DAY 1 OF 12

Embracing God’s Vision

In 1963 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered a stirring, passionate speech which later became the “manifesto” of the civil rights movement. Words of reconciliation, equality, and liberty rang out from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial:

“Let freedom ring. And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: ‘Free at last!’”

In describing his dream of a world free from the bonds of prejudice and discrimination, Dr. King paints a powerful, positive image of the future. The vision he cast that day was more than inspiration—it contained principles that could be embraced and lived out to advance the cause of ethnic equality and justice around the world.

In the same way for Christians, it is not enough to just see the vision God has for our future. We must embrace it, and allow our lives to be molded around it. God's vision is powerful and transcendent. It gives purpose, direction, and passion to those with the courage to run with it. God's vision cannot be altered and tailored to fit our desires, but when embraced, it meets every need, and fills every heart with joy and expectancy!

As you engage with God’s word:

● What is God saying to you?

● What does it mean to you?

● What action step do you need to take?

After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
