Investing in the Bible

DAY 1 OF 3

The best investors understand that risk management is one of the keys to successful investing. We have to intentionally take strategic risks where we believe the odds of success are just slightly tilted in our favor.

But make no mistake, you will not find a great investment that doesn’t involve some level of risk. So as stewards, our job isn’t to avoid all risk, but instead to learn to manage it and get educated about the investment choices we make so we can make wise decisions.

If you notice, in the Parable of the Talents, the master specifically called the one-talent steward “wicked and lazy” for not doing anything with his money.

Our job as stewards is to do the work of learning about and understanding our investments and then taking actions.

As we learn and better understand the various investment opportunities around us, we can avoid the fate of the simpleton in Proverbs 22:3.

Let’s pray:

Proverbs 21:5 says, "The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage, but everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty." Help us to be diligent in our research and decision-making, and to avoid hasty choices that may lead to loss.

And James 1:5 says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." Lord, I ask for wisdom and discernment as I evaluate potential investments. Help me to see things as you do and to make wise decisions that will bring honor and glory to your name.

In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
