Heavenly Strategy

DAY 4 OF 5

Today I will take you to the meaning of identity. Your identity is your focus. It is nothing but what gets most of your attention. It is the center from which decisions are made. If your bank account gets the most attention, the center from which you make your decisions is your money. If your career gets the most attention, then the center from which you make your decisions is your position. Now to the long term. If your family is given the most attention, then your family is the center from which you make your decisions. If God is the main focus, then God is the center from which you make your decisions. The center of your decisions is your focus. Your focus is nothing but your identity. That’s clear. What is your center? What is your identity?

When I want to read about identity in the Bible I look for parts that deal with focus. To understand this and also understand the above, you need a little bit of information about the brain. How you think about yourself and how you see yourself is largely determined by your brain. Beliefs, mindsets, perceptions, and thoughts are just a few things that are dominant when we talk about how we feel about certain things. A mindset is a cluster of thoughts. A clump of dominant thoughts with a theme. They dominate the way you view your own life and life in general. Those thoughts are fed by the information you take in. That also means that what you pay the most attention to is information. So the center of your decisions is built on a belief you have about yourself based on outside information. “What are you looking at?” or “What do you fill your head with?” are suddenly very relevant questions. Ask them yourself.

The Bible is full of passages about focus. Romans 8:5 is one that is right on target. “For those who live according to the flesh set their mind on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” Focus!
