Loving the Other: Jesus Revolution

DAY 2 OF 7

We are In a Dark and Divided Place

It is not a stretch to say that we live in troubled times. The same was true back in the 1970s. Economic upheaval, war, protests, and riots marked this period. Amid those dark times, something unexpected arose. Watch the following video snippet to hear more.

During the chaos of a tumultuous time, hope rose. Contagious, life-giving hope. Where is this kind of hope found? In 1 Timothy 1:1, the apostle Paul describes Jesus as “our hope.” Ultimate hope lies in a person—Jesus Himself.

You may have heard the Gospel story many times, or this could be the first time. Regardless, dwell on the sacrifice Jesus made for you. He left the perfection of heaven to live in the world's brokenness. Although He could have commanded legions of angels to save Him, He stayed on the cross. Jesus bore our sins, took our place, and felt the devastating weight of the wrath of God. He defeated death itself. Hope is looking to Jesus and what He did for you. Paul describes hope as an “anchor for the soul, firm and secure” (Hebrews 6:19). In the gentle waves and tumultuous storms, hope in Jesus is the anchor that keeps us steady.

Let us dwell on Hebrews 10:23, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”

Application Questions:

  • How can hope be an anchor for you? In what ways are you putting your hope in things other than Jesus?
  • What truths of the Gospel help you cling to hope?
