Finding the Light in Mental IllnessНамуна
DAY 2
JESUS
Welcome back! I hope you found some peace yesterday as we discussed the truth about mental illness. It is helpful understanding mental illness is not about something being wrong with us. It is the negative internal emotions we feel as we become conflicted between the demonic activity the mind experiences and the godly forces within our hearts.
God allows our minds to experience these trials as an opportunity for us to prove our heart’s desires. It is the heart we have complete control over and the heart God searches as He yearns to reward us with the crown of life (James 1:12).
Today, we are starting to dig into our Scripture for this week. At this point in history, Jesus had just begun His ministry. He found Himself in a new town on the Sabbath and did what came naturally to him.
Mark 1:21-22 says:
21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because He taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.
Capernaum was a larger city that was actually the center of the Roman taxation system. So, when Jesus went to the synagogue in Capernaum, there were more than a few listeners. It was apparent to the large crowd that something was different about Jesus within this teaching.
In order to understand the energy the people were feeling, we must realize they had heard God’s Word before. But, they had never heard God’s Word taught through Jesus.
I want to leave you with this question today: have you ever experienced being told something you have heard hundreds of times before, but it just took this one time, only one time, for it to make a difference in your life? It was that one time when you felt something different, possibly something powerful, that moved you on a different path.
God came in human form to this earth through His Son, Jesus, and all authority is held in Him. As Jesus taught that day, people felt the peaceful power fulfill the atmosphere.
I’ll see you tomorrow as we learn what Jesus’ power does to the enemy.
