Finding the Light in Suicide

DAY 7 OF 7

DAY 7

YOUR FUTURE

This is my last welcome back this week, as it is our last day in this study. Thank you again for working through the tough subject of suicide.

We saw Elijah in his darkest moments, having suicidal thoughts. Perhaps we could relate to him a bit as Elijah was a faithful follower of God, yet he was afraid and running for safety. He pleaded with God to remove all the pain and give him death.

I’ve prayed this week you have been able to feel God’s strength as he provides it. I’ve also prayed you could hear God’s whisper in the noises of darkness. I hope you hear that whisper of purpose.

I’m praying that you do push forward in God's strength, even if you don’t understand or are eager to follow your purpose. Your purpose is not only to be a piece and fulfillment of God’s great story of redemption over His world, but He has given purpose to your life so that you have HOPE and a FUTURE.

Yesterday I ended with Jeremiah 29:11, and I want to continue that reading today. Here is Jeremiah 29:11-14:

11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.”

There was turmoil when Jeremiah the prophet spoke these words to his fellow people. They had been forced into exile and were under enemy rule. God provided them hope through Jeremiah during their turmoil and pain.

God wants you to be able to call on Him and pray to Him. In return, He IS listening; when you seek Him, you WILL find Him.

Jeremiah told his people they would be brought out of captivity. I want to tell you today that if you have struggled with the darkness of suicide, then the enemy has held you captive.

This week’s message is to remind you God has not forsaken you. He hears your every cry. He is giving you strength, or you wouldn’t be here today working through your seventh day of this study. He has a purpose for your future; they are plans of prosperity. The Hebrew word here is šālôm (pronounced shaw-lome’), meaning completeness or peace. He will take you out of bondage the enemy has over your life. With God, you will find peace.

You will find the light.

I pray over you today for peace and invite you to join me on another 3 Minutes A Day Series as we seek to understand other mental health topics alongside Scripture.
