DAY 7 OF 7

The Resurrection

The powerful imagery of the gospel is so pertinent in our recovery as we go through the storms of loss. It is not just that the death of flesh that we experience is not final, but there is also this beautiful promise we have in Christ. One day, death itself will be no more. The very concept of life coming to an end will cease to exist because we will live in the life-giving presence of God in an incorruptible and pure form. There will be no more pain and sorrow or sickness and death. This is the beautiful promise we have in eternity found in the book of Revelation. This is a beautiful promise, because the fear of death is a pertinent one. The fact that no human knows what really happens when we die makes the concept even harder to comprehend. The best of us baffle at the thought of it.

Even Jesus Himself, the night He was arrested, prayed to the Father to take the cup away from Him if possible. He knew He had to die once to take away the sin of the world. He also knew that He would rise up again on the third day and yet the thought of death was not an easy one for Him.

It is not unreasonable to be scared of death, but the fear of death must not be at the cost of living. We as believers, who are in knowledge of the truth of what Christ has done, must not live life in fear of death. This is not a call to be reckless with life, but in fact to value it more. We know the price that has been paid, and so it calls for us to surrender this life to the One who, as Isaiah prophesied, has swallowed death forever.

Reflection

Are you living your life constantly in fear of death? Remind yourself of the victory that Jesus has won for you and cling on to Him. Put your faith in the One who has defeated death. He will surely wipe away every tear!
