Put on All Your Armor: The Shield of Faith

So much of what we can see around us looks like defeat for God’s people-Christians get injured, we get laid off from our jobs, we are victims of crime, we get sick, and we die. We all die-and this looks like defeat.

But the Bible says in Ephesians 6:11,16, “Put on the full armor of God. . . . Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” Through faith in Christ, we trust that all these setbacks are temporary and that every one of God’s wonderful promises will come true for us-that He loves us dearly, that He is always near us to help, that He works all things out for our good, and that we have an eternal inheritance in heaven.

For now our victory is hidden to the physical senses. But the faith in Christ that the Holy Spirit has given us will deflect the sharp arrows of Satan’s accusations and lies and extinguish the eternal flames they carry.
