Year of the Bible: Part Ten of TwelveНамуна
Do You Feel Like You are Not Enough? Invisible?
Two brothers in an unchurched home teased their little sister unmercifully, even creating what they thought was the most creative nickname ever: “baseness.” She lived in the humiliation of their verbal ridicule. At 19, that little sister gave her life to Jesus and read in her Bible that God uses “the base [weak, foolish] things of the world” (1 Corinthians 1:28). She then read the passage to her shocked older brothers, who immediately ended their use of that name. Over time, God revealed her new identity from Him.
When you feel like you grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, with the wrong ethnicity, or in the most dysfunctional family, it’s easy to think of yourself as unimportant. While it’s true that God doesn’t want us to think more highly of ourselves than we ought, He also doesn’t want us to think lower of ourselves than we ought.
God chose you, after all! The rich, the PhDs, the intact families, and the most beautiful will have nothing more to boast of before the Judge of the universe than the poor or the uneducated. If you feel like a “nobody,” know that God has chosen a kingdom full of nobodies to change the world one person at a time! No one can boast in themselves; you can boast only in Jesus Christ, for He has given you everything you need to live a faith-filled, victorious life.
Question: Who told you that you were not enough and insignificant? Is that a lie you want to believe?
Prayer: Rejoice that God knew exactly the family and circumstance to place you in. Thank Him for choosing you and express your trust that He created you perfectly for His purposes. Come to Him as you are, present your life to Him, and ask Him to continue guiding you one step at a time.
