Women of the BibleНамуна
Lois and Eunice
I remember my grandmother singing in the church choir. She was a soprano, and her voice was quiet—but so sweet. I also vividly remember seeing my mother praying in her chair every morning. I did not realize the power of this "legacy" until I became a mother myself.
We see an example of generational faith in the story of Timothy. In 2 Timothy, Paul was reminded of Timothy's sincere belief that was evident in both his mother, Eunice, and his grandmother, Lois. Timothy's reputation as a disciple was rooted in this legacy.
As Paul wrote his final letter to Timothy, he reminded him of his past (his legacy) and his future (his ministry). Timothy had a sincere faith passed down to him by his mother and grandmother. First, Paul reminded Timothy of where he came from. From there, Paul showed Timothy where he was going. The Spirit empowered Timothy to walk without fear, but rather in power, love, and self-discipline. The sincerity of the faith he witnessed in his family—his legacy--became the foundation of who he was as a pastor in the early church—his ministry.
1. Is your faith sincere?
2. What kind of legacy of faith are you creating?
Prayer: God, let the fruit of your presence in my life be evidence of a sincere faith that can be passed to my children.
About this Plan
Eve and Mary may be the most well-known in Scripture, but the Bible is chock-full of women with rich character, bold faith, and powerful testimonies. Join us as we briefly study 30 “Women of the Bible” and learn about the ways God used them, sustained them, emboldened them, and provided for them. Women have been a part of God’s plan from the Garden of Eden until the present day. We pray your faith is encouraged and strengthened by spending some time getting to know these women’s accounts.
