Here I Am, Lord: Devotions from Time of GraceНамуна
I Love to Play With Children
Lord, how did you know? Do you have any idea what a lift children bring to sad and weary adults? Of course you know--you invented children.
I love to play with children. They’re too young to be cynical, evasive, and aloof. They let their feelings out immediately and blurt out whatever is on their minds. I love to teach them things (and, truth be told, love to let them teach me things). I love kissing their soft cheeks, giving them gifts to see their squeals of delight, and helping to shelter them from the many cruelties of life. I love making children feel safe, involved, and important.
Even men and women who aren’t married have abundant opportunities to be with children. Our world will always need tender and compassionate childcare providers, teachers, coaches, and mentors. Lord, you have abundant ways to bring children into our lives: “He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children” (Psalm 113:9).
When I think back to my childhood, I see now and am amazed at how many wonderful adults you sent me. I was sheltered, entertained, educated, and loved by more people than I can count. Thank you! I am honored that you let me be part of that same loving support network for the children in my life.

About this Plan
God knows that our tongues and brains sometimes lack the words to say, and so he provided the beautiful book of Psalms in his Word to provide vocabulary for us to bring our thoughts and concerns to him. These devotions, one for each day of the month, use psalms to help you voice your needs and hurts and joys to the Lord.
