Let the Church Bow Down: Encounter Christ as King

DAY 2 OF 5

HOW HE IS KING

Jesus is King.

But how is He King?

Jesus holds the unique right to universal royalty. The Gospel according to Matthew shows us that no one else can be King quite like Jesus is, and the reason is because He holds three majestic positions in one: Son of David, Son of Man and Son of God.

As the Son of David, Jesus has the right to sit on the throne of Israel as a royal descendent of David, Israel’s most famous king and the one with whom God made an everlasting covenant (2 Samuel 7:16).The title “Son of David” represents Jesus’ historical position as descendent and fulfillment of Israel’s royal line.

As the Son of Man, Jesus has the right to sit on the throne of the nations. He is the One who Daniel saw in a night vision, receiving from the Ancient of Days all majestic authority, sovereign power, and everlasting dominion over all nations and people groups (Daniel 7:13-14).The title “Son of Man” represents Jesus’ cosmic position as political leader of the universe.

As the Son of God, Jesus has the right to sit on the eternal throne with God the Father. Jesus Christ has existed forever as God by nature and God’s Son by personhood. Because Jesus is the One in closest relationship with the Father (John 1:18), He alone has the authority to make the Father known to us (Matthew 11:27, John 17:3).The title “Son of God” represents Jesus’ eternal position as divine king.

Jesus is King in more ways than one. May we see Him ever more clearly in every facet of His kingship.

Pray with me: Father, thank You for Jesus — Son of David, Son of Man, Son of God. I believe that in Christ the King my future is secure and the destiny of nations is settled. Help me to see and receive that Christ reigns over everything. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
