Combating the Battle of LustНамуна
#1 Memorize
Today, we are going to start setting up our defenses against lust. I remember being taught how to put together an effective sermon while in seminary school. My professor told us, “Always memorize your first and last lines” when formulating a sermon. We can apply this same principle to winning the battle of lust. Always know your first line of defense.
Knowing what is true about lust can intercept the missile and blow it up before it can plant another weed of destruction in your soul. One of the best ways to know the truth and create your first line of defense is to memorize Scripture.
Joshua 1:8 states, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
So, what does the Bible say about lust? Philippians 4:8 talks about pure thinking, Galatians 5:16 talks about walking in the Spirit, and Romans 6:23 discusses sin.
Scriptures are powerful tools to memorize. Psalm 119:11 discusses the importance of storing up God Word in our hearts so that we will not sin against Him.
It’s also important to equip ourselves with truths against lust.
Here are a few examples of this:
-She’s a daughter of God.
-Lust hurts my children.
-Lust breaks God’s heart.
-Lust hurts my wife.
-This is not acceptable behavior.
Knowing your first line can win the battle before lust even gets to you. I strongly encourage you to memorize a few scriptures and truths in your defense against lust.
Application Tip for Believers Fighting Against Lust:
Do some research and find three scriptures about lust and copy them into the “note” section on your phone for easy access. In addition, come up with three truths that you can write in this same “note” and check this note every morning and pray against the spirit of lust before you start your day.
