Finding Safety in God's Care, the Story of Ruth

DAY 20 OF 21

Jesus was born from Ruth’s family line

“...and Boaz [was] the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of […] Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.” (Matthew 1:5-6; 1:16)

The story of Ruth is set in the Old Testament, over 1,000 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. And yet Ruth has everything to do with Him. In fact, she is in His genealogy!

This Moabite woman who initially did not belong to God's people at all and who, according to the law in Deuteronomy 23:3-4, was not even allowed into the LORD's congregation, became the great-great-great...grandmother of the Son of God. God showed her mercy.

Jesus Christ was not ashamed to have a Moabite woman as an ancestor. As a matter of fact, His genealogy also includes a former harlot, a woman who was taken by King David as his wife while she was married to another, and a woman who became pregnant by her father-in-law. All of them were given a place in God's plan.

Let this be an encouragement to you. Maybe your family strongly opposes the Lord God. Maybe you yourself have done the most terrible things in the past. Don't let that stop you from seeking refuge under God's wings, as Ruth did. He warmly welcomes every sinner!
