Obedience
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19 NIV).
This past summer, I spent three weeks in Zambia. By week two, our team was starting to feel the exhaustion of travel and labor. As we were working at a children’s organization, our team was asked if we could sing a few songs and share a word of encouragement for the children and their families. We had not come with anything prepared, so it was tempting to immediately say “no” and request some time to plan. However, in that moment, we chose to be obedient to how the Lord wanted to use our team to share the hope we find in Jesus with these families.
We can read one example of partial obedience in 1 Samuel 15. Saul obeyed part of what God had instructed him to do instead of living out full obedience. The prophet Samuel comes to Saul and reminds him that the Lord delights in obedience more than offerings and sacrifices (1 Sam. 15:22). To serve God faithfully, we must be willing to do whatever He asks of us whenever He asks us to do it.
Jesus commands us to go and make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19). What good is our willingness to go to the nations if it is not matched with an obedience to do what the Lord is speaking? Making disciples does not always look like we expect it to, especially when we feel unprepared. Obedience is sometimes hard and uncomfortable, but saying “yes” to the Lord is always worth it!
That day ended up being one of the best days we had in Zambia! Because of our obedience, we were able to experience God moving in such a mighty way! How can you lay down your selfish desires to be obedient to the voice of God today?

About this Plan
The call to follow Jesus and make disciples is not an easy one, but it is always an adventure. Spend the next five days being challenged by the nature of Jesus to live a life on mission. We have received the commission and the need is great, so people, get ready…
