Trust Like Elijah: Big Faith That Helps You Date

DAY 1 OF 7

What now / What next

Elijah knows that the water will run out. Wadis literally get their water from rainfall and God has declared there will be:

‘no dew or rain during these years...'

This can't really be where God is leading him, right?...not to immediate, and inevitable drought?! The water is going to dry up eventually…what then?

I second guess where God is leading me all the time.

This job, God, really?
Online dating? Surely not?

Elijah's response though, is obedience (17:5). Elijah chooses to trust and go anyway. And God fully provides for Elijah:

'The ravens kept bringing him bread and meat in the morning and in the evening, and he would drink from the wadi'

Are you missing the blessings now because you’re thinking about what’s ahead?

Dating and relationships always involve navigating future unknowns: “What if I never find someone?” or “I’m head over heels but what happens when the ‘honeymoon phase’ passes?”

I think the key to letting go and allowing God to manage the details of your life- is about understanding more of God’s heart for you.

In the sermon on the Mount, Jesus says:

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"

He cares for you, truly and deeply. Of course, God will provide!

I’m not ignoring verse 7 by the way:

'After a while, the wadi dried up because there had been no rain in the land.'

What next? Elijah’s story waits in question. And often our life does too. We don’t see what’s coming, and even less so, feel peace about it. Our invitation is to trust.

What is God leading you to "for now", without your knowing what comes next?

God is calling you to be present in what He is doing now while He sets up your ‘next’. The nation is about to starve, and Elijah has no insight into God’s game plan. He’s run out of water and is just as uncertain. The questions remain and that’s okay!

Trust means being content with not knowing the whole story yet.

Allow God to lead you, by saying yes to His present plans.
