The People of God: The Story of the ChurchНамуна
As we have already reflected on, it is during the Passover meal that Jesus inaugurates Communion. He takes items that have already been significant in his ministry, bread and wine, and centers them on his coming death and resurrection. The Eucharist (thanksgiving) was an opportunity for the followers of Jesus to gather together around a meal of remembrance. An opportunity to remember and become ever more unified as the body of Christ. Three times in John 6, Jesus promises to raise up those who believe in him as the Bread of Life on the last day.
This meal, as we receive it, causes us to remember what Jesus has done in thanksgiving but also reminds us of our here-and-now calling and our future hope of resurrection in Jesus.

About this Plan
What is the story of the church? This plan is a month-long journey through the Bible, looking at how God uses people, situations, and symbols to bring about communion between God and humanity once again. It follows the story of Israel and then the early church, highlighting the church's hope for resurrection and new creation and our role as agents of that new creation.
