The People of God: The Story of the Church

DAY 14 OF 31

David’s son Solomon builds the temple his father had dreamed of. It was a celebration to remember with processions, music, and singing. The Lord was given a permanent place of residence amongst his people. The glory of the Lord fills the Temple and is so thick that the priests are not able to fulfill their duties.

Although completing the Temple and possessing God-given wisdom, Solomon does what the Lord warned the people of Israel against, marrying into many different nations. Gradually his heart is turned away to many other gods and idols. Sadly, this was a pattern that would continue amongst Israel’s kings for generations to come and would have disastrous consequences as the promises and laws of the Lord were slowly forgotten.

About this Plan

The People of God: The Story of the Church

What is the story of the church? This plan is a month-long journey through the Bible, looking at how God uses people, situations, and symbols to bring about communion between God and humanity once again. It follows the story of Israel and then the early church, highlighting the church's hope for resurrection and new creation and our role as agents of that new creation.
