DAY 5 OF 5

The life of a Christ-follower is focused on bringing glory to God and living more like Jesus each day. When that is the focus, being liked by everyone we interact with is not only unrealistic, but of no concern. There is a higher goal that we strive for.

In 1 Kings 10, we see the Queen of Sheba visiting Solomon to evaluate him. She wants to see if all the stories she heard about him are true. Politically, it would have been acceptable and likely beneficial to present the Queen with gifts in order to try and win her favor. But instead of lavishing gifts on her trying to impress or entice her, Solomon simply answers her questions and shows her the way he worships God. This turns out to impress her even more than the gifts would have and brings God glory.

We know this is not always the case. Especially as we look at the early church in Acts, we know that many people were treated poorly because of the gospel message. Paul gets thrown in jail, and instead of being somber, he sees it as an opportunity for rejoicing and spreading the gospel. When we truly believe that God is the best thing ever, we think less about what others think and focus more on God.

Why do you think people care about popularity or being famous so much?

What would it look like to live a life remembering that you are loved by God?

What jumped out to you the most through today’s scriptures?
