KING OVER ALL
All kings have derived authority; only one King, the great God of heaven, is absolute in power and righteousness. This psalm not only exalts and worships God as King, but foreshadows Jesus as the coming King. Jesus is “the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords” (1Ti 6:15) who reigns over the people (Lk 1:33), chooses an inheritance for them (Eph 1:11), was exalted by God (Php 2:9) and ascended into heaven, where he is seated once again on his holy throne (Ac 2:33).
Through King Jesus, victory is promised for God’s people, determined long ago by God when “he subdued nations under us, peoples under our feet” (Ps 47:3). The church longs for the day when Jesus will return — a day when he will display all his glory. He will sit on his throne in all heavenly glory with all the nations gathered before him. And he will say to his people, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world” (Mt 25:34).
Jesus, your power is absolute and your righteousness perfect. Thank you for preparing a kingdom for me, your grateful servant. Amen.
