The Miracle of humility
I was sitting in the corner booth of a local coffee shop, and I noticed a young man walk in and take a seat. He placed his recently purchased sandwich on the table, arranged his books to make room for his lunch, took a sip of coffee, and then...took a deep breath and bowed his head. With his eyes closed, his lips moved in silent prayer as he thanked God for his food. I watched with joy and hope, and in response, I prayed and asked God to bless this young man who had unconsciously blessed my heart with his humility and love.
I don’t know for sure what the young man prayed. I do know he was praying to Jesus because one of the books on his table was a Bible! Once again, by simply looking, I had witnessed the Small Miracle of a human being communicating with his Heavenly Father.
Every time we pray, it’s a miracle because the Creator of the Universe is listening! This miraculous connection reminds me of a parable (a wisdom story) that Jesus told:
“ To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people-robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner. “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
(Luke 18:9-14, NIV)
Today, take a moment and enter the Small Miracle of prayer. Humble yourself. Be aware that you are welcomed into the Throne Room of God Himself. Don’t be afraid or ashamed. Jesus welcomes you!!! Pour out your heart to God. Thank Him for his miracles, and ask your Father for the desires of your heart. Now, listen for His voice. Open the Word and seek Him with your whole heart. He will be found!
Keep looking for those Small Miracles today. If you prayed, you have already experienced one!!
You are a miracle!
