Reflecting Heaven Rules
Once you begin looking for reminders that Heaven rules, you start to see it everywhere. You’ll be reading along in your Bible, and there it is—another HR verse, another HR sighting. You’ll hear a quote you like, maybe in a sermon or on a podcast, and then you’ll notice—there it is again. Something is said that speaks to Heaven’s rule, either the need for it or the reality of it.
Then a meteorologist on the TV news attributes that day’s weather, either its beauty or its power, to the work of “Mother Nature.” And you respond with What? No! because you’re a “Heaven rules” thinker now.
You hear things differently. You see things differently. More important, you respond to things differently. As Daniel did.
He realized no earthly situation had only an earthly explanation, which meant that each earthly situation called for more than just a typical, earthly response. A human king, for example, could order Daniel’s execution. But no human king could order Daniel’s reaction or change his beliefs and priorities. Only God could do that.
Heaven ruled the world, so heaven ruled Daniel. And so may heaven rule us—may the God of heaven rule us. This is what will fill us with courage and comfort in the midst of all of the chaos and battles we face here on earth.
I want my words, my example, my response to hardship and pressure—my whole life—to declare that the future is fully known to God and that all of it is under His control: my future, your future, your family’s future, your spouse and children’s future. Our world, our days, our health, our steps. Everything is His, and He rules over all.
And just as nothing escapes His rule and attention in the macro, He rules with equal care over everything that touches us in the micro.
This is what He has said He is doing. He is in control of all of these things and more. And so this is what I intend to do, and I invite you to come join me: to live in such active alignment with these truths from His Word that He can make our lives into stars shining bright, living examples that proclaim, “Heaven rules.” For us and for them. For our good and for His glory.
Questions:
- How does knowing Heaven rules change your perspective on both the big picture of life and the details of every day (the macro and the micro)?
- Does your life reflect the truth that Heaven rules? What is one step you can take to make that change?
