Daily Bible Reading, August 2022: God’s Renewing Word of Mercy and ForgivenessНамуна

August 11
Introduction
After years of being estranged, Jacob prepares to meet his brother Esau. Fearing that Esau plans to attack him, Jacob sends his brother selected livestock in the hopes of appeasing him.
Scripture Reading
Genesis 32:1-21
Today’s Key Verse: Genesis 32:20b
Jacob was thinking, “I will win him over with the gifts, and when I meet him, perhaps he will forgive me.”
Reflect
What caused Jacob to be fearful of meeting his brother Esau? Why did he divide the people and the animals into two groups? What gifts did Jacob send in advance of their meeting? Is there someone with whom you need to be reconciled? If so, what are some steps you can take today toward doing so?
Pray
Merciful God, whenever I have strayed from your presence, you are always ready to welcome and receive me. With a grateful heart, I thank you for the gift of your love and forgiveness. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Genesis 33:1-20: Jacob and Esau meet.
