According to His Riches in Glory: Learning to See God's Presence on DisplayНамуна
Philippians 4:19 reveals so much about the nature of God in just a few words. However, in order to gain the full revelation, we must also consider these three words: “According to His….”
It is here that we observe an important distinction. Why would the author of this book, the Apostle Paul, use these words as he closed out his letter to the church of Corinth? Why didn’t he say, “According to your needs or wants?”
Paul had experienced God in many circumstances. From prison to shipwreck, he knew the intimate and intentional nature of God as well as His mysterious ways. Paul had committed his life to having the right perspective of Jesus, and, in his closing, that perspective set right expectations for those who were influenced by him.
God is aware of our needs, but He gives according to His knowledge and will. He is not dismissing our requests. He merely sees farther and prepares differently. He is proactive, and, often, we are reactive. This is why the riches and glory must be according to Him and not us. The things I often feel I need or want can be skewed depending on circumstances.
When I accept that God will provide according to His will, I am better able to understand His riches in glory.
