Life Starts Now

DAY 2 OF 5

What does a thriving life look like for you? Do you know why you exist?

The Japanese call it your ikigai, and the French say it’s your raison d’être. Both essentially mean your “reason for being.” You might have thought of this as your life’s calling or your vocation. Or you might never have thought of it at all. It’s easy to walk through life focused on specific goals here and there, without ever considering a deeper meaning behind the narrative your life is telling.

But you need to examine your existence and tap into your core reason for being. We all have a purpose. Whether or not we’ve identified it is the real question. Here’s another way to think of it: Do you have a primary calling that drives your life and determines how you experience the world around you? Often, we have an underlying purpose that is driving our actions without our knowing it. Getting to the place where we can not only amplify our awareness of our purpose, but also begin to live more intentionally into it, is the key.

So let me ask another way, assuming you’ve given some modicum of thought to why you’re on the planet. Have you ever put language to your calling? Have you reached into the vast container of all possible meaning, grabbed a handful of purpose for yourself, and wrapped words around what makes you, you? If not, now is the time. Because if you want to stop living someone else’s version of the good life and step into your own, you need a clear articulation of what thriving looks like for you.

Prayer
Father, I want to thrive in the life you have created for me. Please help me to live intentionally and to know my purpose. Amen.

Start Now Action
Write down your current life purpose statement. In 1to 2 sentences, capture why you exist.
