Preparing for Vows: A Plan for Engaged CouplesНамуна
May we always strive to grow together in Christ, and keep Him the center of our marriage.
Something we say all the time at Awesome Marriage is, “No one accidentally has an awesome marriage.” It takes intentionality.
A Christian marriage should spur you on towards Christ. As Christ followers, God is meant to be the center of our lives, which also means He needs to be the center of our marriage.
If you are going to settle in and be intentional about any of the vows you make, let it be this one. It’s this one thing that can set the foundation of your marriage in the best place. If you and your spouse are striving to grow together in Christ, you can overcome anything.
Not only that, but it’s in Christ that there is abundance. It doesn’t mean life will always be easy, but striving after Jesus is where joy and fullness are found. We were made by God, for God. Worshiping Him is where you will find freedom.
I love the picture Romans 1:11-12 give of Christians spurring on Christians. If you can build a marriage that embodies this verse, you will be striving to grow together in Christ.
What does this look like practically? What does it look like for you to impart spiritual gifts to strengthen your future spouse? How can you lead lives that encourage one another toward Christ?
Like with all good things, it takes sowing. It takes intentionality. Just like no one “accidentally” has an awesome marriage, no one “accidentally” grows closer to Christ. The good news is that there are good rhythms and practices God tells us in His word will keep us striving after Christ. Things like:
- Attending a worship gathering regularly
- Reading God’s word
- Praying with other believers
- Making time to be intentionally still with God
- Practicing hearing from God
- Fellowshipping with other believers
- Worshiping God through song and music
Challenge: Think of three rhythms you want to start with your future spouse now that will help you both lead lives that emulate Romans 1:11-12.
