Year of the Bible: Part Five of Twelve Намуна
Spiritual Blindness
Samson's story is inspiring and tragic, all at the same time! Samson was a clever and strong man who was obviously anointed and called by God to deliver the people of Israel from their oppressors.
It's true, God gives gifts and talents to his people for His purposes. It is also true that you can be gifted and arrogant, using your talents for selfish purposes.
Why did Samson's story turn out this way? Maybe he thought he was too strong to be taken captive and used by the enemy, or he assumed he could resist the persuasion of his illicit female companions?
Samson was blind to his actions' devastating consequences and ignored the responsibility to honor God with his life. His way of life resulted in losing his physical eyesight and premature death. Spiritual blindness and death preceded his physical blindness and death.
Question: Why do you think God still used Samson, even when Samson wanted to do his own thing?
Prayer: God, have mercy on me. I, too, like Samson, have tendencies toward independence and isolation from those who speak the truth. Teach me to return to You quickly and give me a loyal heart like David. By Your grace, show me where I am self-deceived and teach me the truth so I can walk in a way that honors Your name. In Jesus' name, Amen!
