Daily Bible Reading, July 2022: God’s Renewing Word of FaithНамуна
July 12
Introduction
God tells Joshua to arrange for twelve stones to be set up as a memorial to the miraculous crossing of the Jordan River. Two sets of twelve stones are set up – one set at the campsite and another in the middle of the Jordan. Setting up the stones is reminiscent of the twelve stones (representing the twelve tribes of Israel) set up by Moses at Mount Sinai (see Exodus 24:4).
Scripture Reading
Joshua 4:1-24
Today’s Key Verse: Joshua 4:24
[Joshua said:] “Because of this everyone on earth will know how great the LORD’s power is, and you will honor the LORD your God forever.”
Reflect
What were the twelve stones to signify? What were the people to remember (verses 21-24)? What commemorative acts take place within your community of faith?
Pray
Holy God, help me to remember each day your acts of mercy and love and the greatness of your power. May my words and actions this day reflect your love and honor you. Amen.
