God’s Heart For The Poor

DAY 8 OF 31

The Preventable Poverty

One in eight people go to bed hungry each night. That makes hunger one of the primary symptoms of poverty. Hunger leads to malnutrition, low birth rate, and poor health.

It’s often children who feel the pains of hunger the most deeply. Without enough to eat, children are too hungry to concentrate at school and more likely to get sick. The good news? Hunger is preventable!

This verse tells us the answer. The generous are to share their food with the poor. We are called to take what we have been given by God and distribute that food to those who need it most. The result? The generous will be blessed by God.

How do we send food halfway around the world to those who are struggling with lack of essential resources? Compassion International is a great model for how food can be distributed to those children who need it most. The children will also learn about nutrition and the importance of food. They pass this essential information on to their families which keeps the impact of kindness spreading!

"Earlier, my daughter used to get a lot of colds, and she used to have breathing spasms from the time she was born until the time she was enrolled in the [Compassion] program. But after she was enrolled in the program, because she is getting good food like eggs, milk and fruits which we cannot provide for her, she has become healthier." — Maya, mother of sponsored girl Jyoti in India

Share your “food” generously and be blessed by God.

About this Plan

God’s Heart For The Poor

The Bible tells us that God “takes up the case” of those who have been crushed. When we follow His lead, we become an advocate for the poor—doing whatever we can to fight for justice. Over the next 30 days, we’ll take a compelling look into poverty and how God has entrusted us to respond.
