God’s Heart For The PoorНамуна
Divine Protection
A refuge for the poor, a shelter from the storm, a shade from the heat—that’s what God is. This section of Isaiah speaks about how God has been faithful to His promises to Israel. He has done marvelous things and saved them from those who wanted to oppress them. In doing so, God has become a shelter and a refuge for His people in their distress.
How interesting that this verse doesn’t say that God provides the people with refuge or gives them shade. Instead, God is the refuge. He is the shade from the scorching heat. He is the shelter from the rain. He is their ultimate protection.
When the storms of life come—financial difficulties, scorching heat, distressing situations, oppressing people—call out to God who is your refuge, your shelter, your shade. Psalm 138:7 says, “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.”
No one can stand against God. He is the ultimate protector. You are safe inside His refuge.

About this Plan
The Bible tells us that God “takes up the case” of those who have been crushed. When we follow His lead, we become an advocate for the poor—doing whatever we can to fight for justice. Over the next 30 days, we’ll take a compelling look into poverty and how God has entrusted us to respond.
