Pearls of Grace: 12 Pearls + 12 Prayers

DAY 2 OF 12

Peace: When we were baptized into Christ we were given the Spirit of God. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. We were given peace and the means of procuring it by faith through self-control. Thomas Watson, a 17th-century theologian, explained, "God the Father is called the 'God of peace' (Hebrews 13:20). God the Son, the 'Prince of peace' (Isaiah 9:6). God the Holy Ghost, the 'Spirit…of peace' (Ephesians 4:3)." When we are given the Holy Spirit we are given peace from God. God instructs in His Word to turn our gaze away from our fears and fix our eyes upon Him. He promises to keep us in perfect peace as we focus on Him and trust in Him. Practically, we must bring all that is burdening us and frightening us to Him. By His grace, we must lay our fear, anger, bitterness, worry, hurt, covetousness, and more, before Him. As we make our requests known to the Lord in prayer we are able to rest in the Lord knowing that He has everything in His hands. His perfect love and sovereign power guards our hearts and minds.

Abba Father, thank you for the peace that you promise when we by prayer and thanksgiving make our requests known to you. Help me dwell in the Spirit and enjoy you and your peace. Show me how to pray with thanksgiving in all situations. Father, I lay all of my cares, fears, bitterness, worries, concerns, and heartaches before you. I look to you the Author and Perfecter of my faith that I might enjoy the happiness that true peace brings and glorify my Savior, the Prince of Peace. In Jesus' name. Amen.
