Fundamental 5—Testimony (Helmet of Salvation) (Eph 6:17)
Salvation is a free gift (Romans 6:23); we need to remember and stand firm in our salvation. A helmet protects your head—one of the most vital places on the body—from injury due to an attack. A fundamental discipline for the Christian is to share your testimony and remind yourself of your salvation. This is different from the shoes to spread the gospel but they can overlap. Your testimony is personal.
You will not share your testimony every day, but you should live out your testimony daily!
We need to remember our salvation daily, but the Enemy loves to try and convince us that we are not worthy, that we are not saved, that we don’t know what we are doing. Those feelings of condemnation are not from the Lord. Even if we sin, we should feel guilty, but also know Who to turn to!
Revelation 12:11 (NIV) says, “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” Your testimony is so important because it is yours! It signifies what God did for you, and His faithfulness in what He continues to do for you! No one can diminish your testimony; they may not believe it, but they cannot disprove it.
Reminding yourself daily of your salvation and God’s continued faithfulness should result in a thankful attitude. Our faith is also strengthened when we remember what God has done for us.
Our testimony does not have to be a story of our salvation alone. Our testimony can be examples of God’s continued faithfulness during our life. Has God saved your marriage? Tell someone! Has God given you the strength to break an addiction? Tell someone!
People need to see the power of God in your life, and we share that through our testimony. Words can be optional when sharing your testimony. Others see Christ alive in you through your love, your joy, your peace, and all the other fruit of the Spirit.
Don’t live in regret for not telling others about Jesus. Jude says we should “save others by snatching them from the fire” (Jude 1:23 NIV). When you see others as lost, without hope, and on their way to eternal separation from God, it should light a fire in YOU to do all you can to share the hope of eternity that you have.
Who in your life needs to hear your testimony? Who have you shared your testimony with that you need to keep praying for? Also pray that God opens your eyes to opportunities—He will give those to you during the day to share the hope of Christ with others.
About this Plan
How do sports players prepare for the big game? How do those in the military stay ready for war? They focus on the daily disciplines and routines that keep them in a state of readiness. As Christians, we are in a spiritual war and cannot be passive. There are key daily disciplines that we need to do, and these practices are found in the Armor of God.
