My Yes Is on the Table: A 5-Day Study on Surrender by Jennifer HandНамуна
I bet the Israelites had all kinds of ideas about how to get past the walls of Jericho. However, I imagine that they did not come up with the same plan that God had for them. We have a God who takes what does not make sense in the natural and infuses it with His supernatural power and plan. We get to see the miraculous unfolding of His glory in our stories.
Have you ever had the moment when you get stuck in fear because you wonder how the plan the Lord is giving you could be better than your plan because His plan doesn’t even seem to make sense? I am sure there were some mumblings and grumblings among the Israelite people about this very thing when they looked at the walls of Jericho. They had all kinds of ideas of how to knock those walls down, but the plan the Lord gave them was not at the top of their ideas list.`
The plan to quietly walk around the walls until it was time to blow the trumpet loud and then the walls would come down would have seemed crazy to me. I find it interesting that the Lord gave Joshua the promise before He gave Him the plan.
In Joshua 6:2, He promised Joshua that He had delivered Jericho into his hands. Then He tells him how they are going to see it happen.
I wonder if the temptation was to stop marching because what in the world were the people thinking inside? Or if they doubted that Joshua had heard this plan correctly. Would I have kept marching? Would you have?
What walls are you encountering right now? What looks impossible?
What crazy plan do you sense the Holy Spirit whispering to your heart? The Israelites obeyed the Lord’s wild plan. They marched. Can you imagine the moment when it was the time to shout in victory? I wonder if they doubted they would see this victory. But they did it.
Friends, we serve a God of the impossible.
Rahab let out the scarlet rope and believed God to protect her and her family—the impossible made possible.
People walking around the thick walls of Jericho and the walls coming down—the impossible made possible. Each of these stories involved instructions from God that may have seemed crazy when they heard them. Each of them had to take faith steps. What are your faith steps?
