Find Peace in an Anxious WorldНамуна
When Everything Is Spinning
I get car sick easily. When it’s hard to see out of the windows or the road gets windy, my stomach and my head do not play well together, and soon things start spinning. Do you ever feel this way about everything going on around you?
Maybe you and your parents are trying to make a decision about what school to go to next year. Maybe you’re waiting to find out about your dad’s job and if your family has to move. Maybe you are dying to hear if your best friend is going to be in your class next school year. Whatever the case, sometimes it feels like everything is changing around us, yet we are left standing in the middle, spinning out of control.
In another translation of the Bible (NIV), today’s verse refers to God’s people as, “oaks of righteousness.” Do you know why I like that phrase? An oak is a tree that’s tall and firm and steady. Its branches may sway in the wind, but it stands tall.
We know even the strongest trees can fall, though. A bad storm may knock one down, or someone may come along and cut it down.Butif we are planted by the Lord, our tree roots are inHim. The unshakeable and steady One. The One who can’t be torn down.
So when you feel like a tree being blown around in the wind, when you feel like your life is spinning out of control, when you feel like you’re too dizzy to even see straight, remember where your roots are: in the unmoving, unfailing love of God. He is not surprised by the changes, and He will continue to hold you steady with every move ahead.
Rest in that.
Prayer
God, thank You for helping me stay steady when things feel crazy. Remind me that my roots are in You, so I am secure.
