Love Overcomes Fear
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. –2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
Parenting. This word can bring both joy and fear to moms and dads alike. Why? Well, I think it’s because the enemy wants us to be fearful for our children and fearful of our children. He wants us to be fearful that we won’t know what to do, that we’re going to mess up, and that our days are going to be really, really hard.
Let me make something very clear: we are not always going to know what to do. We are going to mess up sometimes. Our little ones and not so little ones are going to be really, really hard work, because bringing up children to know, love, and obey God is a full-time job! With that said, let me make something else very clear: your children will bring you tremendous joy. They are going to help you become a stronger Christian as you get on your knees in prayer for wisdom, strength. and peace. They are going to help you hear the voice of God as you seek Him for counsel. Best of all, they are going to help you fall more deeply in love with the Father as you seek His heart for your family.
Seeking God’s heart is a daily discipline. Like everything else we do to keep physically strong and healthy, the daily pursuit of the Lord will give us the supernatural strength and godly wisdom we need as Christian women and moms. God’s guidance will enable us to make the ongoing decisions that parenting our children requires of us. When we choose to rely on the Lord, our choices will be determined by following Him and His ways. Our heavenly Father will always be there for us because He cares for us.
Let’s Pray
Father, thank You for my children. Thank you that You love them and that You love me too! When my days are long and my sleep is short, help me focus on You and Your love. I truly have nothing to fear, because my hope is in You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
