Remembering Jesus

DAY 1 OF 3

At the Last Supper, Jesus said to His disciples, “Do this in remembrance of me,” and then they partook of the broken bread representing His body and the wine representing His blood (Luke 22:14-20). Today, we know this as communion.

What must His disciples have thought when He called the bread His body and the wine His blood? As much as Jesus spoke to His disciples beforehand of His death and resurrection that would soon take place, they still did not fully understand why He had to go through all that He did in those next few days until He appeared to them after His resurrection. They still may not have understood what He accomplished through His death and resurrection.

How many believers are living like this today without an understanding of what Jesus did for us on the cross? The good news of the Gospel is far more than Jesus simply securing a way for repentant sinners to go to Heaven. He made a way for us to be one with Him, just as He is one with the Father! (John 17:20-26) We have been invited into the eternal love relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is what we are remembering when we take communion! We remember our union with the Godhead through the sacrifice of the Son. We remember Jesus, everything His death and resurrection obtained.

About this Plan

Remembering Jesus

Through His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus accomplished far more than simply acquiring a way for us to go to heaven when we die. In this devotional, we are going to look at what Jesus accomplished and the importance of remembrance through communion. Join us in Remembering Jesus.
