If Only You Knew: An Easter DevotionalНамуна
The events of the Easter weekend are central to the Christian faith. Whether you have just received Jesus as your Lord and Saviour or you have been following Him your whole life, understanding Easter ensures we live in the life-transforming reality of what Jesus has done for us. So, what if we approached this Easter looking to understand its significance to every part of our lives? We invite you to walk through the Easter weekend with hearts wide open. If only you knew how Jesus fully experienced every aspect of the events that provided us with salvation and abundant life…
Isaiah 53 is perhaps the clearest passage of Scripture capturing what Jesus endured through the Easter weekend. We know this passage well and return to it for assurance, worship, comfort or grace. But how often do we read it with fresh eyes, looking for all the ways He accomplished our salvation in every way? Isaiah 53 reminds us of how completely Christ experienced the events of the Easter weekend. When Jesus came to provide redemption, He provided it in its fullness.
Take a moment to read Isaiah 53 again and note down the different ways Jesus experienced the events of Easter. What does this passage say about the social aspect of His suffering? What does it say about His physical experience? What does it show us about the emotional impact of what Jesus went through? How about the spiritual implications?
Maybe your notes looked something like this:
Social: He was rejected and despised (Isa 53:3)
Physical: He took on our pain and suffering, pierced and crushed (Isa 53:4-5)
Emotional: He was oppressed and afflicted, cut off from His Father and the living (Isa 53:7-9)
Spiritual: He bore our sin and made intercession for us to justify many (Isa 53:10-12)
It can be easy to sanitize the events of Easter, reducing it to the physical suffering Christ bore or isolating it to what happened on Good Friday. But it was much more than that. Jesus fully experienced the events of Easter in a way that addresses every part of who we are. This is the good news! Jesus has known every part of our broken world in its fullness, and He has provided a way to true life: redeemed and restored. If only we knew what that means for us!
Come walk through the Easter weekend, exploring every aspect of the good news that reminds us that Jesus made a way for us to approach God’s throne of grace with confidence. The events of Easter ensure that we always have mercy and grace to help us navigate our lives, in every way.
