Overcoming our achievements
If I were to ask you today what your greatest accomplishments are, those things that cause you pride and happiness, what would you say?
Perhaps you have succeeded in building a family or a healthy marriage, or you have fulfilled your dream of building your own home. Maybe you've achieved something your parents couldn't do, maybe you've started a business or paid off your debts. You may even be a single mother who has managed to educate her children and today you see them walking hand in hand with God.
It is easy to believe that our value is found in possessions, in titles, accomplishments or in our circle of friends. But in this passage, Paul shows us that, while our accomplishments are not bad, they do not compare to what we have received in Christ Jesus.
In Philippians 3:1-14, we see Paul's conviction about living for Christ.
He understood that without Christ he was nobody.
God wants us to succeed, but we cannot allow that to become our source of importance, value or identity. Everything we have has been given to us by God.
What is the first thing you think of when you look back on your accomplishments? Do you think you have achieved them because of how good you are, or do you understand that the only reason you have succeeded is because of God's incomparable grace?
Success can lead us to understand the greatness, power, and ability of our God. Without him our achievements are worthless, but in Christ they have purpose.
Day by day we face the challenge of surpassing our achievements and we can do it if we understand the following:
1. The crowns are for him.
The opportunities that come our way and the success we experience are given to us to surrender before his throne. Everything comes from the hand of God, and the glory is His.
2. There is no greater achievement than to know Jesus
Everything we need we find in Jesus, the giver of life, the one who conquered death, the one who defeated our sin, and the one who sees beyond our weaknesses. There is no greater achievement than knowing Him.
3. The achievements of the past are no match for those of the future.
An encounter with Christ changes everything, and nothing compares to what God has prepared for your life. Let us celebrate our accomplishments, but let us live clinging to his grace.
Let us keep moving forward, believing that the best days for our life, our family, the church, and this world are ahead of us.
Prayer: Father, today I thank you that you called, equipped, and empowered me to overcome my insecurities, fears, traumas, losses, and also my accomplishments. Thank you that you always want to see me move forward. Help me to lift my eyes and overcome whatever it takes to walk in your purposes. Amen.
