Glorifying Him Through And In Our Self-Care

DAY 6 OF 6

READING AND WRITING

A great, and my favorite, addition to my morning routine is my devotionals and time spent in His word. Having a balance of both devotionals and reading your Bible can help you find Him in His word and to also find different perspectives and teachings of His word.

My favorite Bible devotionals are:
- Of course, the many, many reading plans here on YouVersion Bible app
- She Reads Truth app
- He Reads Truth app
- First Five app
- Jesus Calling or anything by Sarah Young.

I usually read a few devotionals a day and end by reading in my Bible, pen in hand! For me, taking notes and underlining scripture helps me to better understand it and allow it to sink in.

His answers, His love and His truth lie right there at our fingertips in His word!

Every week I also pick a short verse to write out and meditate on by reading it aloud. Write out the verse on a piece of paper. Then spend the next five minutes reading the verse out loud to yourself. Each time you read it, put emphasis on each subsequent word, working your way down the verse.

This is a powerful and engaging way to memorize scripture. I am sure you will also find a new depth of understanding in His word as you emphasize each word.

Most people do not think to put writing into their daily self-care routine. I think many of us think, “But I am not a writer!”

No need! Writing helps us to make our dark thoughts less powerful and our lighter and faithful thoughts more powerful! Writing out your prayers to God can help some of us with our words, our authenticity and maybe even our courage in talking to the Lord.

Take five minutes today and write. Just write. What are your thoughts and feeling? What do you want to say to God? What questions do you have for Him?

Perhaps we simply start with, “Lord, help me to see, feel, think and understand what You need me to today. Amen."
