How Can I Be Sure I Am Going to Heaven?

DAY 5 OF 7

In God’s hand

How do we know that God cares about us like this?

“He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32).

The cross was the idea of God. Jesus was the “lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21).

Here’s the result: “Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies” (Romans 8:33). The world can accuse us of anything it wishes, but the highest court in the universe has already ruled in our favor. We have already been “justified,” our record expunged, our slate cleaned, because Jesus sacrificed himself for us.

What’s more, “Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us” (John 10:34; 1 John 2:1).

So we have the Father who sent his Son to die for us now sitting as the Judge of the court; we have his Son, who chose to die in our place, acting as our defense attorney. The verdict is certain, and victory is ours.

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand” (John 10:27–28). You are not holding onto him—he’s holding onto you. You’re in his omnipotent hand.

I trusted Christ when I was fifteen. I became a child of God that day, and I'll always be a child of God. My sons will always be my sons, no matter what they do—I'll always be a child of God.

If you became a believer when you were little and didn't know if your faith was sincere, and so are doubting your salvation, let me ask you this: Do you have faith now?

If so, then you are saved.

At exactly what “moment” you were saved is in some ways irrelevant because God “foreknew you” before he made the earth (Romans 8:29)!

The fact that God knew you would come to faith—how does that provide you comfort?

Does God have everything planned out according to his will?

What does that mean for your peace?

Thank God for his saving grace, and thank him as a father, knowing he will never forsake you.

Reflect on this truth for a while: you are his child, and he will never forsake you.
