DAY 5 OF 10

The everyday divine

From the opening chapters of the Gospel of Mark, one thing is obvious: when people come into contact with Jesus, their lives are transformed.

And why should that come as a surprise, since he is the divine dwelling among us? But as I read about Jesus, another thought came to mind. His divinity is awesome, but also his humanity is beautiful. He cares, loves, and shows mercy to those whom society deems do not belong.

As we marvel at Jesus, the Son of God, let us also marvel at his humanity, and be inspired by it to go and stand with our brothers and sisters who are living in poverty and marginalised. Loving humanity is a radical act these days. As people notice the way you love and serve your close and global neighbors, let them be amazed, and ask "What sort of new teaching is this?" (Mark 1:27, NLT)

Prayer:

Thank you, Jesus, for being both God and human. Help me serve and love my local and global neighbours. May our governments create policies that show kindness and mercy towards the marginalized. Amen.
