Closer Than Nearby

DAY 2 OF 7

KNOWING ME KNOWING YOU

David starts his love letter by singing about how God knows everything about him. “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away” (Psalm 139:1-2, NLT). Is that not how every great love story starts? People who are in love “get to know each other” by sharing what they are all about. They tell each other things about themselves which would bring them closer together. God pursues us in the same way.

In our love story with God, He loves to know everything about us. And what He loves, even more, is to share that knowledge with us while reassuring us over and over again that He loves us. In the same way that a lover whispers everything he knows and loves about his partner in her ear to bring her closer, God speaks to us. “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before His eyes..” (Hebrews 4:12-13, NLT).

God speaks his intimate confessions of love to us through his word. The Bible is not only words written by wise people to teach us how to live, it is God himself speaking to us. “In the beginning, the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1, NLT). Whatever we read in the Bible was spoken by God (2 Timothy 3:16). And when we seek God through his word, He will draw us even closer to Him by speaking words of love in our ears. “‘But then I will win her back once again. I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her there’” (Hosea 2:14, NLT).

Do you believe that God wants to have an intimate relationship with you? What can you do to hear the love confessions that God wants to whisper to you?

Let us seek intimate moments with God through his word. “‘When they call on me, I will answer’” (Psalm 91:15, NLT).

In this Plan, we will learn about God’s design for intimacy with us. He wants to be much closer to you than just nearby.
