Dream the impossible dream
Have you ever heard the song by Andy Williams, “The Impossible Dream”? The lyrics are so powerful:
“To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go.”
WOW! That song fires me up. Didn’t Jesus say, “‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” (Matthew 19:26, NIV)?
You have to see it and dream it before you can seize it. This may sound trite or too simplistic, but it’s so true. You need to see your promised land before you can find it, enter it, and conquer it. Let’s compare a vision or a dream to a GPS system. You must enter the desired location so the system can help you find your way.
I’ll never forget the third time I recognized God was giving me a destination. It came in the form of a thought. I was in Bible college in British Columbia, Canada, seeking to find my divine destiny. I had already graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, but I had no clear vision. I had just gotten married, and my wife was expecting our first child.
Life was stressful without a vision. I felt like I was flying an airplane without any instruments. So prayer seemed like a good idea, but even prayer was a desperate journey in oblivion. I had so many questions: “How do I pray? How do I know what to say? Will God speak to me? Will He send me an angel or write on the wall?” I had no real clue or instructions until I received an unexpected answer. A wild thought just popped into my brain: “Paul, start counseling centers in churches.”
That one sentence set the coordinates for the next 12 years of my life. I finally had a vision, and it took me to places and people I could never have imagined. God is great, and He deserves all the glory. The Bible says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18, KJV)
God wants to give you a vision for your life. He loves you, and He wants to love others through you. It’s time to grab your vision because you are a miracle.
