Radically Rediscovering Rest

DAY 7 OF 7

THE LIFE

How do you practice rest in your daily life?

We make time for the things that are important to us. When life gets busy it’s easy for us to replace less important practices for what we think are more important. I want to encourage you to work not for rest, but from rest.

When you work from rest you’re working alongside the God that created you on purpose for a purpose. You’re not striving to please God, but you’re inviting Him into every aspect of your life and trusting that you can do more through Him than in your own strength.

When you feel anxious, exhausted, temperamental, or busy, it might be a sign that you are trying to work from your own strength. In that moment pause and ask yourself, am I inviting God into this situation? Have I taken time to rest in His presence? When was the last time I truly obeyed God by taking a sabbath?

I pray that from this devotional you learn that resting isn’t something that makes you weak, but it’s a commandment as old as the Earth itself. Rest is a powerful time to reflect, recharge, refocus, and realize that nothing is more important that resting in the presence of your Creator.

TAKE ACTION: Find a way to stay consistent. Write it on a calendar, set a reminder on your phone, invite your entire family and have them keep you accountable. Whatever you do, make rest a priority.
