Handling Corporate Careers

DAY 6 OF 7

Scene 1: I finish leading worship one Sunday at church, and during the coffee time I meet someone who is standing all by himself. I introduce myself and make him feel at home as he is from out of town. The next thing you know, in 48 hours, I had a job offer for twice my current salary and progress to be Vice President of a “Big Four” firm!

Scene 2: I am volunteering at parking for our Church’s women’s conference. Working alongside me as a parking volunteer is another fine gentleman. We get talking in between breaks, and a year later I work for this gentleman as CEO of his company.

Scene 3: I am in my college and have my final semester exams the very next day – a Monday! But the previous day (Sunday), I am leading worship at Church all day long in 4 back-to-back services. I say this for God’s glory, the next day, on all my semester exams that happen on a Monday (over the 4 years of my collegiate education), I get over 90 percentile marks!

What am I trying to encourage you with? You take care of God’s business; He will take care of yours! Many a time, we, as believing Christians, do not put our hand on the plough at all OR we serve God half-heartedly which brings a curse upon us (Jer 48:10). We are so busy with our corporate jobs that we forget to give time to serve God. I am not referring to our daily quiet time.

I am referring to serving God in the areas of the skills and talents He has blessed us with. Maybe your talent is in cooking. But do you use that talent to serve His Church (maybe cook breakfast for the Sunday School kids one Sunday)? Maybe you are blessed with a great smile - use it for ushering in Church. Maybe you can play the guitar or help out with the media team in your church. Or maybe you could open up your home to run a life group and be hospitable. Oftentimes, the cares of the corporate world stop us from doing our bit for God!

Let us not forget that the corporate jobs that we have today, it is God who gave us that job in the first place (every good and perfect gift comes from God – James 1:17)). In doing our jobs, we should not forget to stir up our talents and the gifts that God gave us and use it for the extension of His Kingdom on earth - be it in office or at church or our homes or neighborhood! You see, when you take care of God’s house, He will take care of your house. The Bible promises (and His promises are A and Amen) that when you seek first His Kingdom and righteousness, ALL these things will be added unto you (Matt 6:33)!

So make a resolution today, that just as you serve your earthly bosses, make time during the week to serve your King of Kings and the Big Boss of all Bosses! You see, when you take care of God’s business, He will take care of your business.
