Letting Go of Intrusive Thoughts and Finding Peace

DAY 2 OF 5

Relinquishing Control: Setting Our Minds on Christ

Because God is sovereign and in control of our lives, we can go to Him when we feel out of control. Unwanted thoughts may begin with a particular worry or fear and then branch out and expand into a frantic “need” to appease whatever has taken hold of our minds. For those that desire to follow God, it can turn into a snare in our walk of faith. It’s almost as if we are trying to earn our salvation by going through these motions.

We somehow think we will have peace by obeying these thoughts in our minds. But this is a false peace and hope because it is not rooted in Christ. A good way to test your thoughts is to ask yourself a couple questions:

  • Is this way of thinking bringing glory to God or bringing me closer in my relationship with Him?
  • Are these thoughts producing more faith and trust in me, or am I just stuck in worry and fear?”

Since God is sovereign, we can place every worry and fear into His care. We don’t have to keep carrying this baggage. We have to remember we actually are not in control, but we can go to the one who is. We may have to literally let go of our thinking and take hold of the peace of Christ. Tomorrow we are going to go over how to take our thoughts captive to Christ.

Prayer:  God of the universe, You are worthy to be praised! Your glory is here for all to see. My momentary problems are small in the light of eternity. Help me to fix my eyes back to You instead of being taken captive by my thoughts. Forgive me when my spiraling thoughts do not bring You glory. Teach me to not have an anxious spirit. In Jesus name, Amen.

About this Plan

Letting Go of Intrusive Thoughts and Finding Peace

Intrusive thoughts can take over life and shift from one problem to the next. Just as one battle is won, the next is right around the corner pulling us into a spiral of anxiety. We can become free from these debilitating thought patterns. God wants to give us peace, and it starts with Jesus. We would like to thank Courtney Dusenbury for her help in providing this plan.
