6 Things Christians Should Do With Money

DAY 4 OF 6

Day 4: Do Good, Be Wealthy With Good Works

“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works...”

Instead of constantly trying to dream of ways to build wealth with your business or work, dream about building wealth in terms of your good works towards others.

It’s easy when you have extra to spend lavishly on yourself. But, we can use our excess for good things, like helping others and giving to the poor. What if we could create millions of dollars only to finance Kingdom activities?

How many missionaries could be supported? How many evangelistic outreaches could be funded? How many God-glorifying books could be published? How many hungry could be fed? How many of the lost could be reached?

I believe there are lots of people who God wants to use as extravagant givers in this generation. People who will lay down their own agendas, change their preconceived notion of” success,” and humbly obey what God has planned for them.

Giving sets things in motion. As repeated as it is, it can’t be said enough: you cannot reap what you don’t sow. If you put seeds in the ground, they will eventually yield fruit (and more seeds). If you don’t sow the seeds, you don’t get the fruit or the seeds.

Over the last few years, I have come across quite a few Christians who have this desire to be extravagant givers – who don’t really care about keeping up with the Joneses but who want to dedicate their earning power to God’s purposes.

My encouragement to them (and myself) is that we have to start small. It doesn’t matter how much or little you make. It doesn’t matter how much debt you have, and it doesn’t matter how much education you have.

How we handle what we have in front of us determines what happens next. We just have to use what God has given us and start moving in the right direction.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for all you’ve provided for me. Help me to lay down my own agenda and do what You would have me to do. I ask for ideas, inspiration, and the audacity to always say “yes” when you lead me. I choose to follow your leading and not my own. Thank You that I know Your voice and the voice of a stranger I will not follow. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

About this Plan

The Bible gives specific instructions with money that we should take to heart. Surprisingly to some, the answer is not to become poor. So let’s dive into what the Bible actually says to anyone who is wealthy so we can be living the way God wants us to live and not by how society thinks we should.
